PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT: MIC
MIAMI INTERMODAL
CENTER PROGRAM (MIC) ONE STOP SHOP
Miami, Florida
The Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) will be similar to New York’s Grand Central Station and other multimodal facilities that can be found in many world-class cities, offering easy connections to various forms of transportation.
The
MIC will provide safe and efficient transfers for users
of various rail systems, buses, taxis, rental cars,
privately owned automobiles, bicycles and pedestrians.
Additionally, by consolidating rental car functions
offsite, the MIC will absorb a great deal of the vehicular
traffic that today congests the roadways accessing
the airport terminals.
With the vast amount of construction occurring throughout
Miami-Dade County, the Florida Department of Transportation’s
continuous
presence and availability to the public was greatly
needed. One of the challenges foreseen in this program
was the need for a central point of contact for the
general public and the members associated with the
various components of this construction. With so many
segments under construction, the need for inter-agency
coordination, public awareness/information and maintenance
of traffic coordination was crucial to the success
of these projects.
The C3TS Team established the One Stop Shop Traffic Information Program to better serve the surrounding communities, the traveling public and the various stakeholders and project team members involved with these projects.
C3TS is uniquely qualified in running a program of
such magnitude as warranted by the successful results
of the Miami Intermodal Center’s One Stop Shop Traffic Information Program (OSS). The success of this program stems from the solid foundation established by C3TS and its team members in going beyond the expectations of the Department and the community to meet their needs.
C3TS has forged strong alliances with the various agencies involved such as the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority, Miami International Airport, Miami-Dade Transit, various departments of Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, Miami Springs, Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Virginia Gardens, in addition to the various utility companies involved in these projects.
The program’s project managers, project engineers
and staff depend on our team to assist them in the coordination
of the various construction activities and to obtain
approval and consensus within the various agencies involved.
In essence, C3TS is a true extension of the Department’s Construction Team.
PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT: COMMUNITY
EDUCATION

C3TS believes in educating the community and expanding
the public’s knowledge on how projects are developed
and taken through the transportation process. Our
firm is committed to providing community service to
promote the education of the architectural and engineering
fields to our future professionals.
We have developed
the “ABC’s” of Transportation Campaign
to educate and communicate public awareness of the
overall transportation process. Additionally,
C3TS has been involved for several years with the Math
Counts Competition program to promote mathematics,
algebra, and logic to students from the 6th, 7th, and
8th grades. Along with this program, C3TS received
a MECCA (Magnet Academy for Engineering, Commercial
Arts, & Architecture) Community Partnership award
for our involvement with Miami Jackson Senior High
School which is a magnet school for MECCA.
C3TS
is also involved with the Miami-Dade County Public
School’s Program “Volunteer Principal for
a Day”. Our staff has volunteered to lead
the school for one day, talk with the kids about future
careers and the importance of higher education. We
have also played a vital role in the SECME (Science
Engineering Communications Mathematics Enhancement)
Program, serving as Co-Olympiad Coordinators and Judges
for the various competitions.
C3TS believes in
giving back to our community and several of our employees
are involved in community outreach efforts with Hands On Miami, and support several groups within the industry
such as Florida Engineering Society, Public Relations
Society of America, Latin Builders’ Association,
and Florida Builders’ Association, among others.
Commercial Arts, & Architecture) Community
Partnership award last for our involvement with Miami
Jackson Program “Volunteer Principal for a Day”.
PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT: PUBLIC RELATIONS & FLOOD
RELIEF PROJECTS
The C3TS Team is committed to working with local communities to reach consensus and improve the future of our infrastructure. Not only do we offer a group of professionals with exceptional expertise in developing outreach campaigns, but also the Team with the technical knowledge on how a project is taken through the five stages of the FDOT Work Program (Planning, PD&E, Design, R/W and Construction).
Building
and maintaining public trust is critical to carrying
out our Team’s mission. The public must have confidence
in the C3TS team members to have confidence in FDOT.
Building trust is more than simply disseminating information.
Building trust results from empowering individuals and
helping them understand that their opinions do count
and will be considered. Our staff has designed and conducted
a full range of public participation programs that have
routinely incorporated different activities.
C3TS’ Public Relations Team was hired by the Florida
Department of Transportation to handle the Community
Awareness Program for NW 14th Street during the Construction
of this project. Construction of the NW 14th Street project
will alleviate the severe flooding conditions and traffic
congestion experienced by residents and motorists. The
improvements include installing a full pump station at
37th Avenue to alleviate flooding; reconstruction; milling
and resurfacing of NW 14th Street within the project
limits; Intelligent Transportation System underground
construction; drainage improvements; sidewalks, curbs
and gutters; improving traffic signalization at the NW
42nd and 37th Avenue intersections; improving lighting;
and adding landscaping along NW 14th Street. While the
roadway was closed to traffic for six months during construction,
a full Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan was implemented
to ensure the smooth flow of traffic through the community.
C3TS’ Public
Relations Team worked hand-in-hand with the members of
the community to ensure that information of the changes
in traffic patterns and the communities needs were met.
The team also coordinated the groundbreaking ceremony
for this project developing a complete ceremony program,
design and implementation of promotional materials, project
brochures, media coordination and coordination with the
community and public officials. |
