BRIDGE
DESIGN: CONVENTIONAL BRIDGES
ROEBUCK ROAD
OVER THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE
Palm Beach County, Florida
The
project consists of the design of a bridge and
MSE retaining wall approaches for a four-span,
four-lane overpass crossing the Florida Turnpike.
The structure is a new bridge along a new route
connecting Jog Road and Haverhill Road.
The MSE
walls for this project extend through the raised
intersection of Jog Road and Roebuck Road. C3TS
provided all of the structural design services
including the design of a box culvert to maintain
flow within the drainage canal. This canal
crossed beneath the western MSE wall approach. |
BAYOU TEXAR / SR-10A
BRIDGE DESIGN SERVICES
Escambia County, Florida
The Florida Department of Transportation - District III selected C3TS for the design of the Bayou Texar/SR-10A bridge replacement, near Pensacola, Florida. The project includes the preparation of full roadway and bridge plans for the replacement of the 155.8 meter (511 linear foot) four-lane bridge over coastal waters, as well as the reconstruction of 509.1 meters (1670 linear feet) of approach roadway. The bridge was built using phased construction, maintaining four lanes of traffic operational during construction. This was accomplished through the use of a two-lane Acrow bridge with sheet pile abutments into the Bayou. Architectural enhancement features, bridge and roadway lighting are also included. The total construction cost was $7,500,000.

I-95 OVER
SR-40 BRIDGE REPLACEMENTS
Volusia County, Florida
The project consist of the design of the replacement
of the existing twin three span structures over
SR-40 with a new twin single span structure.
The new structures provide a 40.0 meter (131.25')
clear opening beneath I-95. The typical section
consists of a six-lane divided roadway with 3.0
meter (10 foot) shoulders. The superstructure
is supported by prestressed piling and MSE Walls
for the embankment. Plans also included the development
of structure phasing scheme to maintain two lanes
of traffic operations in each direction.

BRIDGE DESIGN: COMPLEX STRUCTURES
I-95 HOV LANES (PALM
BEACH LAKES BOULEVARD TO BLUE HERON BOULEVARD) BRIDGE
DESIGN & UTILITY COORDINATION SERVICES
Palm Beach County, Florida

The Interstate 95 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) project
in Palm Beach County was one of the first projects advanced
under Senate Bill 862 (Mobility 2000). The FDOT
District IV approved the expansion of I-95 from Forest
Hill Blvd. to PGA Blvd. to relieve congestion in the
rapidly growing county.
C3TS was part of the Design
Team selected to provide structural design and utility
coordination for the replacement of three (3) major interchanges:
Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., 45th Street and Blue Heron Blvd.
The addition of the HOV lanes to this segment posed unique
challenges in the development of traffic control schemes,
particularly as a result of the bridge replacements and
the impending impacts to motorists both on I-95 mainline
and the crossroads.
C3TS designed temporary walls
at each interchange that enabled the maintenance of three
(3) lanes of traffic in each direction at all times. C3TS
also provided all utility coordination efforts that were
particularly critical given the compensable interests
associated with this limited access facility.
BRIDGE DESIGN: REHABILITATION
AND WIDENING
MACARTHUR CAUSEWAY
MINOR AND MAJOR BRIDGE REHABILITATION
Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, Florida
The
firm of C3TS has been providing minor and major bridge
rehabilitation services under a Districtwide contract
for the last three years. Services under this contract
have included the rehabilitation of major water crossings
such as the SR- A-1-A MacAurther Causeway East structure
shown here.
Rehabilitation work has included major
bridge painting, scour protection, steel beam bearing
replacements, piling repairs, column and pile cap repairs,
cathodic protection, pre-stressed beam repairs, expansion
joint replacement, fender system rehabilitation, Maintenance
of Traffic Plans, and general bridge deck superstructure
and substructure repairs and rehabilitation on major
water crossings and limited access facilities.
Under
this contract C3TS also provided program manager services
to the Department for the restoration of nine bridges
which experienced significant scour damage during the
no-named storm. This is the second Districtwide
contract in which C3TS provided these serviced to the
District.
FLORIDA’S TURNPIKE
DECK REPLACEMENT OVER RIM DITCH CANAL
St. Lucie County , Florida
The project consisted of the structural design of the full depth deck replacement of the six-span bridges over the Rim Ditch Canal and painting the structural steel superstructure. The existing deck travel lanes were replaced using special High Early Strength Concrete Strength mix allowing replacement of one-lane over three spans in a six-day period to accommodate the opening of the bridge to peak day traffic on the seventh day. The travel lanes in both directions were replaced in this manner.
BRIDGE
JACKING OF THE SOUTHBOUND ON/OFF-RAMP BRIDGE STRUCTURE
AT THE OKEECHOBEE BOULEVARD INTERCHANGE RAMP OVER THE
FLORIDA TURNPIKE
Palm Beach County, Florida
Preparation of a Bridge Jacking Study and associated construction plans for the repair and jacking of the existing overpass. This current structure has severe substandard vertical clearance with an existing vertical clearance of 15’-5”. This has resulted in numerous impacts to the structure severely affecting the operation of the Turnpike. This project consists of raising the roadway profile alignment to accommodate a 16’-6” vertical clearance over the Turnpike and repairing the existing bridge.
BRIDGE JACKING
OF 45TH STREET OVERPASS OVER THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE

This current structure has severe substandard vertical
clearance of 14’-8”.
This has resulted
in numerous impacts to the structure severely affecting
the operation of theTurnpike. This project consists
of raising the roadway profile alignment to accommodate
