ARCHITECTURE: EDUCATIONAL
FACILITIES
DORAL MIDDLE SCHOOL EXTERIOR Miami-Dade County Public Schools
The firm's architectural staff has in-depth experience in the design of educational facilities, as well as related structural engineering experience. Doral Middle School was recently completed and has been in session since its inception in the Fall 2000 school year. The 1,500 student middle school is constructed on a 20-acre rural site in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The building area is approximately 143,000 square-feet, and the facility includes a 500-seat auditorium. This experience builds on our prior project experience which includes the Design-Build of Jose de Diego Middle School (State School II) and renovations to Ludlam Elementary School, which included the architectural design for a new library/media center.
DORAL MIDDLE SCHOOL INTERIOR
Miami-Dade County Public Schools
One of the challenges in designing a new school is the proper accommodation of the interior furniture together with the program and finish requirements. At Doral Middle School, C3TS was able to seamlessly combine these aspects into an aesthetically pleasing whole which also harmonized with the overall building architecture. Created within the restrictive budget constraints of the realm of Design-Build, the creative use of standard materials and building techniques yielded a creative palette which the design team called its “Kit of Parts”. Working with the school’s principal, educational specialists, and the school board’s architectural / interior design team, C3TS was able to orchestrate these individual efforts into this Design- Award winning project.
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY EAST ENTRANCE
Miami, Florida
C3TS
designed the University Park Campus’ new East
Entrance Road for Florida International University. This
State University System capital project consisted of
a new main entrance from S.W. 107th Avenue with aesthetic
treatments that enhanced this gateway to the campus. A
new four-way signalized intersection was created with
turn lane and signal improvements on S.W. 107th Avenue.
The
new roadway intersects the existing internal university
loop roadway, and a modern traffic circle was constructed
at that location. The project includes parking
and access road to the new president’s house,
lighting, entrance features, sidewalks, landscaping,
irrigation, drainage, water and sewer, electrical,
and telecommunications utilities for the planned development
in this quadrant of the campus. The project was
completed at a total construction cost of $2,200,000.
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WALKWAY AND
CENTRAL PAVILION
Miami, Florida
C3TS’ professional
architects and engineers take a holistic approach in
addressing public spaces within educational facilities. An
example of our expertise includes the Covered Walkway
and Central Pavilion at Florida International University. The
project encompassed the architectural, civil, structural
and electrical engineering design, as well as construction
administration, of this 300-foot covered walkway from
Parking Garage No. 1 to the Primera Casa Building at
the University Park Campus.
This State University
System capital project had a total construction cost
of $500,000.
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ELEVATOR TOWER RETROFIT
Miami, Florida
C3TS’ architects
and engineers have vast experience in the design of
educational facility structures, such as the Primera
Casa Building Elevator Tower Retrofit at Florida International
University. Our firm was hired by the university
to provide the architectural, structural and mechanical/electrical
engineering design of three five-story traction elevators
in this independent tower addition.
Further project
services provided by C3TS include construction administration. This
State University System capital project had a construction
cost of $1,300,000.
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS HOUSING
Miami, Florida
The 328 bedroom FIU Biscayne Bay Housing project was constructed in 1984. In 1997, C3TS was commissioned to provide a study to Reprogram, Refurbish and Renovate the units and provide a Budget to accomplish the work. Several of the items in the Study were repaired with FIU forces. In the Spring of 1999, C3TS provided design services to provide new kitchen and bathroom layouts and cabinetry and a project to upgrade the electrical service to the building and each unit to allow for increased electrical requirements of the student computers, TV’s, and other appliances. Both of these projects were completed during semester breaks so that no revenue was lost.
